Our LibraryThing account is set up! Please click here to read about how to enter your books and review them on our account. See Ms. Fleet for the user name and password to access our account. Let’s see how quickly our LibraryThing library can build up. This is the link for our page. When you enter a book, please add your first name as one of the tags so we can see who read the book. I have added one of my recently-read books to get us started. Has anyone else read my first entry The Glass Castle? It is a great Georgia Peach Book Award nominee that my adult book club is also reading. Hey! Maybe I’ll have them open a LibraryThing account!

Let’s Start Our Own LibraryThing!
Posted by blatantbibliophiles on October 30, 2007
Back before Oprah launched her book club in 1996, many people outside of public library patrons had never heard of them. Now people who had never even read a book before are avid bibliophiles like us. A study by scholars Ribovich and Erickson reported in Library Media Connection showed that lifelong readers usually develop their love of reading before they become adults. Book clubs are a great way to become more involved in reading! Since we haven’t been able to come to a consensus about a book to read together, why don’t we submit online reviews of the books we have read recently? Whenever you read a good book, submit a comment to this post so other bibliophiles can read it and maybe they will want to read the book also. Ms. Fleet will also set up a new LibraryThing account just for the Blatant Bibliophiles. See Ms. Fleet for the user name and password. Whenever you read a book, you can post it on the Blatant Bibliophile Library Thing account. Each account will only hold 200 books. Can we reach 200 books before school is out? By the way, have you checked out Ms. Fleet and Ms. Hamilton’s Library Thing account? There is also a link on the sidebar of the Blatant Bibliophile Blog.

Teens Really Do Read!
Posted by blatantbibliophiles on October 28, 2007
Ms. Hamilton has a great post on The Unquiet Library blog about teens who read. Did you know that 70% of teens use their school library more than once a month, and 31% use the public library more than ten times a year, according to a survey of over 1,200 teens? Seventy-eight percent of regular library users borrow materials for personal use, not just school use. Teen book sales increased twenty-three percent from 1999 to 2005. Check out The Unquiet Library post for full details, and visit The Unquiet Library for all our great books and materials. And bring a friend to the next Blatant Bibliophiles meeting!

The Return of Trivia!
Posted by blatantbibliophiles on October 26, 2007
Bibliophiles and other members of the intelligentsia gathered in the Unquiet Library today to match wits against each other in the second round of Grizzly Trivia. While all teams provided some amazing answers, there had to emerge a winner in each lunch group. The fourth period winners were The Blue Goats, consisting of Brett, Justin, Jake, and Sky. Team Guee, Requiem, The Plethora of Plebian Pineapples, The Mind Freaks, and last month’s winners, Ricky Bobby, were edged out. In fifth period lunch, The Ragin’ Cajuns were victorious, with team members Josh, Allen, Justin, Nathan, Thanos, and Zack narrowly destroying The Haminators and The Sassy Six. In sixth period lunch, Team Whatchaka-Wi-Woo was dealt a narrow defeat by Team X-Treme, composed of Kristen, Kinley, Kayla, Laura, Kuwanda, and Trianna. This month’s winners will be treated to a pizza party during their lunch period on November 5! Trivia lovers take note: we will be hosting our first afternoon trivia on Monday, November 5. There will be three rounds, at 4PM, 5PM, and 6PM. Students, parents, and staff are invited to attend. Please sign up in the media center as soon as possible if you plan to participate.
