Pitch Black – Books with Bite via kwout

This is just the coolest Teen Read Week website EVER!!!!! HarperTeen, book publishers extraordinaire have created PitchBlack, which helps you select your favorite vampire books at the opening of a crypt door! Upon entering the site, you choose from one of three crypt doors. Just ask yourself: Are you a lover, a fighter, or a biter? So you think you’re a lover? The site recommends the Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber. No, maybe you’re a fighter. Then you need to try the Evernight series by Claudia Gray. Or wait, maybe you’re a biter? Then check out the Vamps series by Nancy A. Collins. There’s also a quiz to help you decide which type of vamp you are. You can even pimp your coffin, because, as the website tell us, “just because you’re undead does not mean you have to be uncool!” There’s a list of Pitch Black Books with Bite tour events and even a sweepstakes. One grand prize winner will receive an iPod touch and a Pitch Black ten-book prize pack. Ten runners-up will receive the Pitch Black ten-book prize pack. Visit the website for rules and to enter the contest. Here’s a list of the books you can win:
Evernight by Claudia Gray
Vampire Kisses 5: The Coffin Club by Ellen Schreiber
Vamps by Nancy A. Collins
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr
The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
The Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith
Mediator: The Twilight by Meg Cabot
Gone by Michael Grant
Switch by Carol Snow

Celebrate Teen Read Week!

Posted by blatantbibliophiles on October 7, 2008

Next week, October 12-18, is Teen Read Week, sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Library Association. Teen Read Week is directed at teens, parents, librarians, educators, booksellers, and other interested adults. “Read for the Fun of It” is the primary theme of Teen Read Week, but the sub-theme changes each year. This year’s sub-theme is “Books with Bite.” This theme promotes a variety of books along the “bite” theme, from vampires to cooking to technology (bytes). You can also join the readergirlz as they celebrate Teen Read Week every night on their live chat at the readergirlz forum on MySpace. Their themes are multicultural bites, verse bites, contemporary bites, fantasy bites, and gothic bites, with a list of Creekview favorite authors. Stop by the media center (or your local public library) to check out a Book with Bite and celebrate Teen Read Week!

Blatant Bibliophiles Meeting Friday, October 10 at 8!

Posted by blatantbibliophiles on October 7, 2008

The Blatant Bibliophiles will meet Friday, October 10 at 8:00 A.M. in the media center. Of course refreshments will be served. What were you thinking? Be sure to bring ideas about what you would like to do this year. In case you didn’t notice, we just added a new page to the blog so that you can add book reviews directly to the blog page since we didn’t have great participation last year with review writing on our LibraryThing page. What do you want the club to do this year? OK, besides eat? Next week is Teen Read Week, so be thinking about something fun to do! See you Friday!
